Considering that EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly) is writing a review of KHII in it's next issue I just wanted to set something straight. I've come across a very interesting article I would like to share with all of you.

There was talk of unscrupulous publishers and many replies came, sparking from thread to thread. Worse still were the reports of 'reviews for cash', where one game publisher stated: "Yes, we can pretty much get whatever cover we want from that magazine. [We] meet with the publisher, [and] promise that we'll buy some ads". This means that poor games will get more favourable reviews if their publisher splash out on advertising with the magazine. One source said: "Some companies actually feel they have the right to look over your story before it goes to print!" Although we've refrained from naming names, it's only fair to mention the American magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly and the quote from its editor, Daniel Hsu, who sums up the situation rather affably: "I'm hoping that with this added pressure for the press to start acting like press, that it'll make it better for all of us across the board..." It's certainly honourable, but while journalism remains commercial you can be sure of a struggle between revenue and integrity. Like all meetings of art and business, it's nearly always a case of 'ne'er the twain shall meet'.
So basically you can't trust just any magazine that has a reviews games. Yet a lot of fans of certain magazines will disagree because it's their favourite magazine. But imagine games that deserve a 5/10 get a 8/10 and make you the viewer purchase the game for 50$ or £30 just because the publisher of the game paid the magazine some cash or promised it some advertisement.
